Citizenship and Scholarship Honors
Huron High School gives special recognition to seniors who are designated by the staff to be outstanding scholars and citizens. The following awards are given out to twelve graduating seniors.
Paul K. Meyers Award
Named for the first principal of Huron High School, this is a recognition of good scholarship, clean personal character, leadership of fellow students and dependability in worthy enterprise and service to the school in athletics, public speaking, dramatics, music, art, publications, student government, etc.
University of Michigan Citizenship Award
This is a recognition of good scholarship, clean personal character, leadership of fellow students and dependability in worthy enterprise and service to school in athletics, pubic speaking, dramatics, art, publications, student government, etc.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Award
Special recognition in those who have made outstanding contributions in the field of civil rights. The intent of the award is to honor those students who have personal relations that reflect respect and consideration for others regardless of race or status, display leadership in promoting respect and consideration, have been actively engaged in organized efforts at Huron High to improve human relationships and have challenged the students and faculty to recognize those prejudices which interfere with good human relationships.
Understanding and Sharing Diversity Award
Special recognition to those who have made outstanding contributions to understanding, sharing and appreciating the cultural diversity of Huron. The intent of the award is to honor those students who demonstrate the following characteristics, a knowledge and understanding of cultural, ethnic, racial and religious differences, so appreciation of the contributions, styles and values of others; an ability to communicate and actively share their understanding and appreciation with other students and scholarship and citizenship should be considered.
Charles Baird Humanitarian Award
Named for the former principal of Huron High School, this is a recognition of positive contributions to the Huron climate. It is intended to honor students who display characteristics of friendship, understanding and optimism.
